BIOGRAPHY

Lawrence is a research scientist with a focus on helping to develop disease resistant crops with the intention of contributing to sustainable food security, the reduced need for pesticides, and greater overall harvest yields and quality. He completed a PhD at the University of Warwick exploring genetic control of resistance to Turnip mosaic virus and Turnip yellows virus in Brassica before joining Rothamsted where he is currently investigating the interactions between wheat germplasm, Barley yellow dwarf virus (BYDV) and important UK aphid BYDV-vector species. His skill set encompasses various molecular biological and entomological techniques with specialism in plant virology. He is also proficient in statistical analyses of large datasets, robust experimental design, QTL mapping and a range of bioinformatic techniques.
