BIOGRAPHY

Melanie is a laboratory analyst in the Analytical Chemistry Unit, an analytical soil, plant material and environmental water specialist testing facility that provides extraction, digestion and analysis procedures as a service in support of the research programmes of the institute and external clients. Melanie's main activities are the determination of inorganic carbon in soil, the extraction of available phosphorus from soil (Olsen P), ammonium acetate and ammonium nitrate extraction of available cations from soil, and soil pH measurement. She also has experience in combustion analysis for the determination of total carbon and total nitrogen, and in Kjeldahl digestion for the determination of total nitrogen. Melanie joined Rothamsted Research in 2013 and has more than 25 years' previous experience working in commercial research and testing laboratories.
