The big picture: using wildflower strips for pest control
Biomass expert Craig Jamieson started Straw Innovations Ltd in December 2016 with the purpose of making better use of Asia’s leftover rice straw.
“More often than not, people look at rice straw, sigh, and say ‘that's just another load of waste we need to get rid of!’ However, whilst others may see it as waste, what I see are possibilities,” he told us.
“Specifically, the three F’s: Food, Fuel, and Fertilizer.”
His company is developing a process that will use this vast, under-used resource to produce more food, fuel and green construction materials.
So, we asked Craig for some advice on getting started – specifically, how to stop ‘you’ being your own biggest hurdle.
