Young stars are born from the great gas clouds of nebulae in the Milky Way. This process, while short on galactic timescales, still takes several million years to complete. We can observe stars at various stages (trimesters?) of their birth; noticing that the great discs of gas that envelop them get larger as the star is younger. Join Dr Calum Morris from the University of Hertfordshire on his search for these youngest stars in ‘The Swan’ constellation and learn how these will have an impact on our understanding of planet formation!
Café Scientifique is a place where, for the price of a cup of coffee or a glass of wine, anyone can come to explore the latest ideas in science and technology. Meetings take place in cafes, bars, restaurants and even theatres, but always outside a traditional academic context. Anyone is welcome to come and learn something new, ask questions, and join in the discussion.
