The big picture: using wildflower strips for pest control
Adrian is biogeochemistry laboratory manager at North Wyke in Devon, concentrating on the extraction and analysis of soil and herbage samples from the institute’s carbon cropping programme. He has expertise in analysis for organic biomarkers, including n-alkanes, hydroxy fatty acids, phospholipid fatty acids, by gas chromatography (GC) and gas chromatography mass spectrometry, with specialisation of doing compound specific isotope ratio analysis using gas chromatography-combustion-isotope ratio mass spectrometry (GC-C-IRMS). His duties include extraction and analysis of samples, assimilation and interpretation of data, maintenance and trouble shooting of instruments, and training and supervision of students and visiting workers. He is also responsible for quality control, health and safety, and general running of the biogeochemical laboratory.
