The big picture: using wildflower strips for pest control
Protecting Crops and the Environment
Alex is currently undertaking a DTP PhD joint between Rothamsted Research and the University of Nottingham, fully based in the chemical ecology group at Rothamsted.
His PhD project is entitled 'Elucidating the mechanisms of aphid resistance in wheat'. Building on work carried out by previous researchers and PhD students, this project focuses on ancient wheat varieties which have been shown to posses aphid resistance against aphid pests from the UK and Europe. This project aims to further understand the mechanisms behind this resistance, focusing on the roles of the secondary metabolites from these wheat varieties.
