The big picture: using wildflower strips for pest control
Net Zero and Resilient Farming
Helen Metcalfe’s primary research focus is quantitative agricultural ecology. She is a post-doctoral ecosystems modeller. Her work focusses on the use of functional traits to describe the response of farming systems to change in management practices, particularly in terms of ecosystem service delivery. Her work involves the mechanistic modelling of non-crop plants within the agricultural landscape and the interaction of these plants with other trophic levels.
Her previous work quantified the spatial distribution of Alopecurus myosuroides, an important weed of cereal crops and described its relationship with soil properties using a mechanistic life-cycle model.
