Satwant Smith-Rana

As a CIPA qualified Intellectual Property and Commercialisation Manager, Satwant is responsible for the management and maintenance of the in-house IP Management System with an emphasis on information retrieval and reporting regarding the Rothamsted Research Patent Portfolio. This entails a close working relationship with Patent Attorney firms, IP Renewals Agencies and Rothamsted scientists to initiate, negotiate and develop patent filings through prosecution and leading to the potential commercialisation of IP applications. With a strong commercial background in Business/Medical Information Management, reinforced with an MSc in Information Management and a BSc in Physiology, Entomology and Parasitology, Satwant also has commercial experience in the chemical, oil/gas, construction and medical environments. Before joining Rothamsted Research she worked with the Wellcome Trust in the collation and presentation of historical medical information gathered from the Wellcome medical collection and recognised international academic bodies. A previous role as Business Information Manager with BP Oil & Gas has enabled a valuable understanding of information gathering and reporting to monitor clients, competitors and industries.
