Theo studied his first degree in chemistry at University of Manchester, spending a year in industry analysing polymer additives at Addivant UK. Taking an interest in the mathematical aspects of chemistry, he decided to study a Graduate Diploma in mathematics at Birkbeck University of London and subsequently a Masters in mathematics at Queen Mary University where he studied mostly applied mathematics as well as machine learning.
Since starting at Rothamsted in January 2024, he has been involved in helping develop the Rothamsted Landscape Model in Fortran, in particular helping to incorporate a bespoke heavy metals model developed by CEH. This model looks at daily soil-heavy metal processes on a UK-wide spatial grid for five scientifically important heavy metals, determining concentrations entering subsurface soil layers and into groundwater.
