The big picture: using wildflower strips for pest control
We have an exciting opportunity for an 8-week summer studentship available at Rothamsted Research using a pioneering non-invasive volatile organic compound (VOC) analyser to detect soil health status. The project is funded through the Analytical Chemistry Trust Fund.
This project aims to develop an application for the use of VOC analyser technology as a novel sensor for rapid monitoring of soil health status through VOC emission giving accurate information on soil status.
The placement will take place in the Chemical Ecology Group at the Harpenden site of Rothamsted Research and have a strong link with the soil microbiology group (co-leading this project).
The placement will take place during the summer period 2025 (June/July) and is specific to undergraduates in the middle years of their degrees (i.e 2/3, 2/4 or 3/4). The placement is designed for students who are considering a career in research, but who have not yet had an opportunity to experience research. Students must be registered at a UK or Irish HEI for the majority of their undergraduate degree.
The project is funded through the Analytical Chemistry Trust Fund. A studentship grant of £3520 (£440 per week) is available for students during this 8-week studentship.
Please email Dr John Caulfield or Mr Ian Clark at Rothamsted Research for information and to apply for this studentship.
